Cantaloupe is not a fruit that you see used in smoothies too often, but if you haven't tried it, you're definitely missing out.

A cantaloupe smoothie is not only very tasty, but is also packed full of nutrients, including beta-carotene, Vitamin C, folate, and fiber.

Add to that the antioxidants and potassium present in strawberries and you've got yourself a nutritional bomb to start your day with.

This recipe for melon smoothie works with any kind of melon, not just cantaloupe, but I prefer this sort of musky melon because it results in a creamy smoothie.

Cantaloupes are also known as musk melon, mush melon or sweet melon, and they are just the perfect texture and sweetness for a smoothie.

Other melon smoothie ideas include honeydew smoothies, casaba smoothies, piel de sapo smoothies, and snow melon smoothies.

You can use any of these fruit as a substitute for cantaloupe to make this dairy free smoothie, but the results may vary in terms of texture.

How to make cantaloupe smoothie?

To make this cantaloupe and strawberry smoothie, you need about half a cantaloupe, which is the equivalent of 250-300 g (1 ½ - 2 cups) when cubed.

You'll also need 150 g (1 cup) fresh or frozen strawberries. I prefer fresh ones, but if you use frozen, you are bound to get a better texture.

I also include ½ frozen banana for texture, but you can omit it if you want (I know some people look for strawberry smoothies without banana because they don't like the combination). Just keep in mind that your smoothie might be a bit too liquid without it.

How to make a dairy-free smoothie?

To make this dairy free fruit smoothie, all you need to do is use your preferred plant-based milk instead of regular milk or yoghurt.

This actually goes for any smoothie recipe - you can substitute your favourite plant-based milk to transform anything into a lactose-free smoothie recipe.

I used almond milk for this recipe, but it tastes just as good with cashew milk or oat milk.

Instructions

• 1. Put all ingredients in a high-powered blender, starting with the fruit and ending with the mil.
  250 g cantaloupe

150 g fresh or frozen strawberries

  ½ frozen banana

  250 ml almond milk
• 2. Blend until smooth.
• 3. Enjoy!

Notes

The frozen banana is mostly there for texture - if you don't mind a less creamy smoothie, you can omit it.

The sweetness of this smoothie varies depending on how ripe the cantaloupe is. If yours is not very ripe, you may add 1 teaspoon agave syrup for a sweeter smoothie.
