Smoked Salmon Tagliatelle

Fresh and succulent smoked salmon makes this pasta dish taste incredibly without too much effort. I love this smoked salmon pasta recipe because you only need a couple of ingredients and 30 minutes to put together a delicious dinner.

Loaded with smoked salmon and smothered in a lemony, garlicky and super creamy sauce, this smoked salmon and pasta dish is not something you only make once. Basically, once you taste this smoked salmon tagliatelle, you’ll want to save the recipe to make it again and again.

I love smoked salmon and we do have loads of it in Scotland, so I have made this recipe with quite a few varieties. Almost any type of smoked salmon would do just fine, but make sure you go for the oak-smoked, sliced type if possible instead of salmon trimmings, as it really makes a difference.

What do you need for this recipe for smoked salmon pasta?

I prefer to make this pasta (or any pasta recipe for that matter) using fresh pasta (store-bought), because I like the texture better, but this smoked salmon tagliatelle dish works fine with dry pasta as well.

You can also use any other pasta of your choice, such as fettuccine, pappardelle; even short pasta like penne or fusilli would work in a pinch. Basically, use any kind of pasta you have on hand and you believe would be a good choice for a creamy sauce.

Besides pasta, you’ll also need the following:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 200 ml (1 cup) creme fraiche (low-fat is fine)
  • 2 tbsp mascarpone
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan
  • 1/2 lemon, juice of
  • 200 g (7 oz.) smoked salmon, shredded
  • 50 g (1.5 oz) rocket

You can substitute the creme fraiche and mascarpone combo and transform this into a smoked salmon pasta with cream cheese dish if you prefer.

You can also add some freshly cut dill at the end if you like the salmon and dill combo.

How do you make this salmon pasta dish?

1. Boil the tagliatelle in salted water for 2 minutes less than the pack instructions.

2. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the chopped garlic for a minute until softened.

3. Stir in the creme fraiche, mascarpone, lemon juice, and grated Parmesan. Add two ladles of pasta cooking water.

5. Add the shredded smoked salmon and stir through. Season with freshly ground sea salt and black pepper, and mix in the rocket, saving some to garnish each plate. Serve immediately.
